CENTER OF DISTINCTION FOR BALANCE DISORDERS AT NORTHEAST ENT AND ALLERGY
Our practice has developed an expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of balance disorders. Balance problems can be caused by ophthalmologic abnormalities, neurologic abnormalities, or inner ear abnormalities. Based on history, physical examination, and often, imaging studies, we can refer those patients where appropriate to Neurology or Ophthalmology for further evaluation and treatment. For those patients with inner ear abnormalities, our Audiology specialist, Dr. Mary Hunting, will perform electrophysiological testing to determine the exact nature of the inner ear abnormality and suggest treatment to remedy the problem. Common inner ear syndromes associated with balance disorders include benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, labyrinthitis (inflammation of the inner ear), and Meniere’s Disease. We are fortunate to have Dr. Hunting on our staff. Her expertise in the area of balance diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, is recognized regionally.
