Center of Distinction – Sleep Related Orders – Northeast ENT & Allergy
Not sleeping well? Snoring loudly and keeping everyone up at night? Feeling fatigued during the day, particularly mid-afternoon where you would like to crawl into a corner and sleep for 2-3 hours? Having frequent daytime headaches or difficulty in controlling blood pressure despite trials of different medications? Then it is entirely possible that you may have a sleep disorder, and particularly, a sleep disorder of significance called sleep apnea. Northeast ENT & Allergy deals with the entire gambit of sleep related problems in patients who have snoring and obstruction. Untreated sleep apnea may lead to serious health issues such as myocardial infarction (heart attack) or stroke
The staff at Northeast ENT & Allergy will begin with a work-up with history and full ENT examination and then most likely proceed to a sleep study at one of two local sleep facilities. Armed with this data, appropriate treatment planning can be accomplished. Most often, we would make the recommendation for weight loss, increased exercise, and placing the patient on Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). If a patient has a significant obvious obstruction such as nasal obstruction due to anatomic issues, such as a deviated nasal septum or if they have significant redundancy of oral cavity/pharyngeal tissues such as enlarged tonsils and related swelling, then surgical treatment may be recommended prior to obtaining a sleep study. The patients placed on CPAP who do not do well with CPAP after a 90 day trial, may discuss surgical treatment with us. The staff will help our patients interact with the companies who provide CPAP machines and equipment to help the patient avoid red tape/paperwork associated with this process.
